Robin Systems Joins the Hortonworks Technology Partner Program and Achieves HDP Certification

SAN JOSE, Calif., June 28, 2016 — Robin Systems, a Silicon Valley container-based virtualization platform software company, today announced it has joined the Hortonworks ISV/IHV Partner Program and has successfully achieved Hortonworks’ Certification for Robin Containerization Platform. This enables users of Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP™) to benefit from Robin’s container-based compute and storage platform to maximize hardware utilization, improve application performance, and dramatically simplify applications lifecycle management.

By achieving this certification, Robin now provides the most efficient operating platform for Hadoop-based applications and HDP, the industry’s only 100 percent open source platform built on Apache Hadoop. To certify partner technologies, Hortonworks reviews each product for architectural best practices, validates it against a comprehensive suite of integration test cases and performs benchmarks for scale under varied workloads, while comprehensively documenting every step in the process.

Robin is heralding a new era in data center evolution with industry’s first Application-Defined Data Center software. Robin’s container-based, compute and storage platform makes the server and storage boundaries invisible to the applications. This maximizes hardware utilization, eliminates virtual machine and data sprawl, and dramatically simplifies application lifecycle. Robin is the first company to bring the containerization benefits to mission-critical enterprise applications, such as databases and Big Data clusters, to enable high-performance workload consolidation with the agility and flexibility previously available only to micro applications.

Using the Robin Containerization Platform, data management professionals can

  • Consolidate Hadoop clusters and applications with bare-metal performance and Application-to-Spindle performance guarantee. This usually results in up to a 50 percent reduction in hardware footprint and CAPEX.
  • Dramatically simplify cluster deployment and lifecycle management using container-based “virtual clusters.” Each cluster node is deployed within a container and a collection of containers running across servers form the “virtual cluster.” This enables single-click deployment of an entire Hadoop cluster within minutes.
  • Realize substantial storage savings by eliminating the wasteful 3-way replication in Hadoop. Robin’s decoupled compute and storage architecture — featuring enterprise-grade data protection capabilities such as replication, compression, and erasure coding — protects data centrally in a much more efficient manner, thereby instantly doubling the effective storage capacity.

“We are thrilled to partner with Hortonworks as it enables Robin to bring its DevOps-like agility, data management innovations, and storage acceleration to Hortonworks deployments, thereby accelerating the adoption of Hadoop by mainstream enterprises,” said Premal Buch, CEO of Robin Systems.

HDP was built by the core architects, builders and operators of Apache Hadoop and includes all the necessary components to manage a cluster at scale and uncover business insights from existing and new Big Data sources. HDP enables multiple workloads, applications and processing engines across single clusters with optimal efficiency. It also provides an open platform that deeply integrates with existing IT investments and upon which enterprises can build and deploy Hadoop-based applications.
